ITACA Innovative Transport Approach in Cities and metropolitan Areas

Total budget (match funding + ERDF): € 407.000

Project aims:

ITACA aims to reduce carbon emissions in metropolitan areas by identification, assessment and exchange of innovative technologies and management plans for public and private transport. This entails the development of public sector strategies for optimising the design and delivery of sustainable transport solutions, comprising several approaches like the identification of innovative and eco-friendly technologies suitable to be used in urban areas both in public and private transport, realistic assessment of impacts, benefits, costs and requirements for infrastructure and supply chains, barriers and gaps, R&D and Innovation priorities, etc.

In this framework, the main objective of this proposal will be the identification of best practices and approaches to achieve an integrated urban renewal and local mobility management process, acting towards sustainable mobility targets using traditional tools and innovative means like the application of new technologies and the existing partner’s know-how; every implemented action will be related to both transport supply and demand management, and the activities will be based on a strategy aimed to create a new mobility culture, taking into account the whole urban system and the interaction of the subjects involved in this complex matter.

Activities:

Work is divided over three subgroups:

1) Innovative technologies: delivering an inventory and assessment of innovative technologies for metropolitan transport

2) Management models: delivering an inventory and assessment of low carbon management plans

3) Communication and result dissemination: delivering planning and activities for internal and external communication

Work is coordinated by a governing board responsible for monitoring progress and synergy of the subgroups’ efforts. Deliverables: Best practices handbook, seminars in partner regions and dissemination to wider audiences, mainly through internet.
