POWER Successes

POWER Policy Report

POWER is a 5.8 million Euros programme funded through INTERREG IVC between September 2008 and March 2012. Seven European regions (Andalusia, Emilia-Romagna, Malopolska, Noord- Brabant, South East England, Stockholm and Tallinn) joined forces to share their experience on how best to move towards low carbon economies.

Regional governments can and already are playing a major role in climate action, implementing actions close to their citizens and setting examples with innovative regional approaches. POWER has represented a key opportunity for these seven European regions, together with stakeholders from business, government , knowledge institutions and civil society to share experiences, develop actions and further collaborate towards the EU energy targets and ahead of COP17 in Durban and the Rio +20 summit in 2012.

Over the course of three years the seven partner regions funded nine subprojects delivering results on the five POWER themes:

Alongside this, a group of policy experts was nominated to work together with the Regional Correspondents and agencies, to follow and liaise with the sub projects and analyse the outcomes of the funded projects' work. This ensured that good practices were captured and policy recommendations were fed back into national and regional strategies.

The results of POWER are recorded here. Each of the subprojects produced documents to highlight the knowledge generated. These can be found in the Evidence column. Each sub project page describes the partnership involved, the specification for actions, and the methodology for achieving results. The 65 Best Practices are described in detail.

The Policy Recommendations for each theme are listed and each region produced a Roadmap to represent their route to a low carbon economy.
